As long as it has an ATi or nVidia graphics chip and is recent (I'm guessing this is new) then you won't have a problem with SH3.

its the video that's gonna make or break this.

so try for non-onboard 128k
and hope for something better than you need.

I am running NYGM and GWX on a laptop (mostly with external CRT monitor) 1.8 G Intel Centrino, 512 RAM and 128 meg ATI video card.
No problemo, only going down to around 20 fps in harbours because of traffic but for me acceptable. Would suggest you get one wit 1024 Ram as it is mostly standard now. The good ones also have a 256 meg video (mine is almost 2 years old)
I use FS Autostart for disabling unnecessary programs and services and defragging memory before launching (frees up average 100 k available ram). Also make a weekly upkeep of the system (cleaning of junk files and registry, disk defrag)

G3 Mayhem extreme
1GB Ram
P4 2.0
Nvidia 6600go 256mb vid card

I paid a buttload for it though.

Thanks everyone.

Am I correct in assuming that video cards for laptops differ from those of desktops?

i.e. a Geforce 6800 is for a desktop and wont fit into a laptop? However, a MB for a desktop means the same for a laptop?

Sorry dumb questions I know but guess we have to have something to discuss while we wait for SHIV.

um

yes and no

depends upon how your laptop is designed
some few actually accept standard video cards
and even have enough extra juice to power them.

Basically the mobile 6800 is slightly less powerful than the desktop version but uses the same technologies.

Measurements, like the MB in question, though, are the same.
