I totally agree with you. My opinion (and I have one as I've been playing it for the last three weeks) it is far better than anything else in SH3 domain. But of course that's just me and my opinion. Once it's out you will have the chance to have a go and see for yourelf. I just hope (for the sake of all the GWX team efforts) that you agree with me

Again I totally agree with you. SHIV when it comes out should be an improvement to SH3 in all areas. One hopes that it will be better, but since I've been playing sims for at least 15 years and computer games since the time of Z80 and cassetes, I've learned the hard way not to have very high expectations. Obviously there cannot be a comparison of SH3/GW/NYGM/GWX and any other mod with SHIV as they belong to a different generation. Still with GW/NYGM and GWX SH3 is and most probably will be playable in the near future. And that's really something.

Glad to find someone who also got started with the ZX 81... My first sub game was Silent Service on cassette tape for my Commodore 64, at the same time I was playing Elite... That's already a few years back.

I played both Silent Service and Elite myself.
Also a Star Trek game whose name, alas, eludes me, but with which I spent many an hour working my way upwards through the ranks.

On-topic: As far as I get it, NYGM is for those craving as much realism and historical accuracy as possible, while GW is for those craving more content (new ships, cities, nations, battles, etc.) and the ""wow!" effect" provided by the above-mentioned and the improved graphics.

Which is my biggest fear with Norwegian Operations: That I won't finish it before Ubisoft finishes Silent Hunter 4. The game's estimated "ETA" is first quarter 2007, and while I don't have anywhere near a set release date for NorOps, but it's not going to be out any time soon. I'm litterally racing Ubisoft, and I do not like it.

Wrong assumption sailor. For many players, the true Uboat war means Atlantic Ocean not Pacific. SH 3 got a loooong life ahead especially with those great mods in the pipeline.
With respect - every time a game sequel is imminent, a lot of players swear they'll stay with the current title, yet when the sequel comes out, many of those self-professed "loyalists" will jump ship to the sequel faster than you can say "Prequel Quisling".

Of course I can't assume anything on an individual basis, but I'm very certain that many people will jump ship when Silent Hunter 4 is out. Whether Silent Hunter III will die early or live for many more years, as for example Battlefield 1942 did when 'Vietnam came out, I have no idea. Probably the latter.

Huh, I thought everyone hated BF vietnam? Me, and everyone else I knew stuck with 42, mainly for the reason that they liked the ww2 theme better.
