Default This forum.....

Guys as a real newbie to sub sims and SH3 I really want to take the time to thank all those that have helped me out on here. This is by far one of the friendliest forums I have ever been on and that list is incredible with my other "life" as a die hard flight simmer.

Flt sim forums are becoming more and more rude with guys I guess actually thinking they are Senior Captains with American Airlines flying 777's or something.

But I really see none of that here, you guys know what you know and share it in a way that is definetly not condescending but very helpful.

Down the road as I get more mature with the sim I hopefully can help out some guys that are new to it just as I am now.

In 2 weeks I have learned 100x what I learned in 2 months of owning the sim before I found this place!

Thanks again,
Chuck Gehman

I would like to second this motion!

The only other game I really play right now is a mmorpg. The people on the forums there, yikes. You could say, "The sky is blue" and there would be 85 people tossing insults at you for saying the sky was blue. Ask a simple question there, get reamed for being an idiot.

This place seems to have some really great and helpful people, I know I've learned a TON about the game just reading here!

EDIT: Ok enough with the lovefest. You all have bad B.O. Or something like that.

Like most submariners, we are at the bottom but always the tops! Yes, quite different forum to say the least. Heated discussions are usually mild! Besides, none of us has friends and by being nice people continue to talk to us.

The forums has had it´s ups and downs, but it´ll survive anything thrown at it.

I´ve been a member on alot of forums and this one is, indeed, the most friendly one I´ve yet to see.

Hi Chuck,

Its not just the FS forums its forums in general. The apparent anonimity of the internet breeds contemptious behaviour.

That being said, indeed this is probably the most civil forum I participate in.

Theres been a few shouting matches (flame wars) but they dont last long.

Just avoid the X1 topic and youll be fine

Oh and welcome to the forums. Dont be a stranger.

Hey Chuck - you're spot on. I'm about as new as you are and I marvel at the great tone of this forum. It really does have the sense of being a positive community. I was thinking a few days ago about saying something similar to you but thought it would sound corny. Then you said it - and it's not. Thanks.

I'm a 54 year-old and have been playing PC games (at a relatively shallow level, no pun intended) for 10 - 12 years but SH3 + TGW + this forum is the best yet. I like SH3 because I feel it involves some thought and logic, a little knowledge of the sea (which I have), some maths/trigonometry and it doesn't seem like kids' stuff. It also doesn't require fast-twitch muscles in your fingers like a FPS. I'm hooked and am really looking forward to GWX.

(PS: Have you seen Stabiz's SH3 movies on YouTube - fantastic!)

Gidday Mr C. It's a very wet late-spring Saturday morning. My wife is away for the weekend doing the Kerikeri Half Marathon with her friends. THAT means I can play SH3 all weekend without retribution. Yeehaa!

Bring your sub down here and we'll go out on the Hauraki Gulf and torp the non-Kiwi America's Cup boats!
(Now I'm getting silly...)

Welcome to the forum! I concur with your assessment. In general, I think we have a mature and professional group here. I, too, have learned a great deal from the good folks here, which has greatly enhanced my game experience as well as advanced my knowledge of U-Boats.

I was a moderator on a RPG site for a while. The politics, arrogance, and pettiness I experienced had such a profound effect upon me that I stopped playing the game entirely almost three years ago.

The subsim group, relative to my past experiences, is like a breath of fresh air.

Oh, and you may periodically hear rumors about a supermod called "GWX". I think it's a long-standing hoax, as I haven't seen anything other than a monstrous carrot on a stick.
