Indeed....Russia needs a strong leader like Putin to pull itself back together...what it doesn't need is a return to the old Soviet days where more money was spent on military expansion than public resources, and Pravda was gospel. It's a helluva mess and I don't envy Putin one bit, but he's got to play this carefully...

Rossiya television quoted police who said Ms Politkovskaya had been shot three times in the body and once in the head.

A pistol and four bullet cartridges were found near her body.

It's obvious it's a hit.

And a sloppy job of it at that.
