a) SH3Cmdr doesn't interfere with game messages or their appearance; b) SH3Cmdr doesn't interfere with the weather settings (it does run SH3Weather if it finds it, but that's as close to tinkering with the weather as it gets); c) SH3Cmdr doesn't automatically determine or set patrol grids. Indeed, in this instance SH3 would have already chosen the patrol grid before you even ran SH3Cmdr! Actually, repeated patrol grids is not that uncommon. If your previous patrol ended in the same month as the current patrol ended, you *may* get a duplicate grid as SH3 obtains a grid destination relative to the month of the last finished patrol, as opposed to the month of the next patrol, which is what you'd kinda expect (thanks to Rubini for this find). And with any randomisation, repeats are possible. Last edited by JScones; 09-09-06 at 09:58 PM. |

Greetings JScones, What is the possibility of implementing a field that enables the uboat to return or transit to a different port. I was basically thinking that when a Flotille moves to a different location, uboats could actually transit from one base to the new base or whilst on patrol then return to the new port.

Hi all Kaleuns,
sorry 4 my bad English, but this is my 1st post over here, usually I post to a Italian SHIII forum. This is the matter: I was in my 8th patrol in the middle of the summer in 1940 leading my VIIB Uboot. The BdU assigned me to patrol the AN79 grid!?! Is this normal? I usually don't discuss the order, but this order is like a suicide. So... when I was in the proximity of the AN79 grid, I got a mine or a net or both of them and I had one guy death and severe damage all over (both the periscope, the radio and the sonar etc.). I came back to willelmhaven and after a month I've started 4 a new patrol (grid DH79). Several miles out of Spain coast I intercepted a convoy; I had 6 torpedos left, 2 of them reached a medium tanker; 4 torpedoes missed, the tanker didn't sink. Run out of torpedoes, I decided to resupply at the Bessel in Vigo. After the resupply (restarting SHIII commander ver. 2.6) I got the follow message. "lieutenant SR mau---- to report immediately to kiel for reassignement to training duties". and "relinquish command of U21 to your exec". Then SHIII commander informed me "if you are getting 'itchy feet' sitting behind a desk, you can return to active duty and continue your career" So... what do I have to do? I accept to spend time (1 month? 2 months?) training myself again, I hope I won't lose my grade and I agree to restart from Kiel with a IIA as well. Pls suggest me the right way to come back in the opration area. Best Wishes. mau---- |

The difficulty in sinking the ships is indeed based on Grew Wolves or NYGM, both of those mods make things more difficult.
The "behind the desk" thing you got was the "Simulate a realistic career length" option, where after so many patrols you're sent to train new recruits or work a desk job. You can simply click on your Status and get back into active duty. Or leave the realistic career length option unchecked and patrol till you die. ![]() If you pick "return to duty" you should keep your same boat and crew. |

FYI, in the next week or so I intend releasing a very minor maintenance fix (R2.6.1). It will be nothing more than a tweaking of a few internal aspects, for example:
- Read-only attribute will automatically be removed on any file that SH3 Commander modifies, as opposed to the current error message and abort. - Number of days spent in base can be set between 0 and 2075 (ie the length of the war in Europe), as opposed to the current 100 day upper limit (I have no idea where that came from!). - Title bar will display the full path to the SH3 installation, to better support and recognise multiple SH3 installations. - Double clicking the "Existing careers..." entry will no longer collapse the careers list. This is just a minor thing that annoyed me. - Clicking the "Existing careers..." entry will display the full path to the SH3 save folder. There's a reason for this which will become apparent over the next week or so as well. - "before patrol 1" careers will be excluded from the careers list, because these careers don't actually exist! - Will check if SH3 is running and advise the user to exit SH3 first, to avoid I/O errors and other file conflicts. One thing I want to stress is that this release will NOT break any current compatibilities with ANY mod. For current SH3Cmdr users it will just be a one file release which will overwrite the current SH3Cmdr.exe. BTW, I have changed a bit of the code which *may* make SH3Cmdr backward compatible with Win98 and ME. If anyone running SH3 on Win98 or ME (with IE4 or greater installed) wants to test this latest SH3Cmdr, pls let me know. Last edited by JScones; 09-18-06 at 06:58 AM. |
