Yes, when transfering to a new boat, you keep your crew and their qualifications, but you begin with a basic model boat without upgrades.

Ahh, ok. Is the IXB or IXC a wise upgrade from the VIIB? I've done 10 patrols in my trusty VIIB and feel almost dirty for trying to ditch it for a new boat.

If you're asking is it wise to go from a VII to a IX then it depends on what kind of patrols you like. Quick patrols that are close to home and require a minimum of fuss: stay with the VII. Long patrols that can become boring as you cross the Atlantic, trying conserve every ounce of fuel to stay on station longer and having a larger torp load: go with the IX.

If youre wondering whether to go to an IXB or IXC: go with the IXC slightly better boat IMO.

It depends what your after 'horses for courses' I reckon. type V11 = fewer eels and shorter range but qucker at diving. Me personally...I like to travel to far off places (USA..Carribean) to hunt tankers. If I decide to 'fish' around in the Atlantic I can hang about much longer......HUNTING TANKERS!!!

Well, I've made it about half way through a patrol in a new IXB, and I'm just not feeling it.

The boat just feels too "big" to me, and of course the longer range means more travel time, and the later on in the war I get the more radio signals I get and hitting TC+ every 5 seconds because you just got another radio message is grating my nerves.

Think I'll switch back to the VIIB/C after this patrol...

Yes they are like sailing in a bus and handle about as good but the sights of New York and the Caribbean are something to see
New York aii lit up is kinda cool - especially before they enter the war with all those lit ships in the harbour too
Long haul yes and those patrols are not for everyone
Well at least you tried it - throw your radio man overboard next time he slows you for a message :rotfl:

Yes, literally. Toss him out of the radioroom, and you will have no more annoying messages.

Oh, and I agree, nothing beats a Type VII.

Or replace the GW radio messages with the ones from the stock game.
