Magna Carta 'copy' miscatalogued in 1940s found to be original

Quote:
An issue of the Magna Carta, which was wrongly catalogued as a copy in the 1940s, has been identified as original.

Harvard Law School Library bought what it thought was a stained and faded copy of the document from London book dealers Sweet & Maxwell in 1946 for 27 dollars and 50 cents.

The book dealers had acquired it at a Sotheby's auction a month earlier from a First World War pilot for £42. It was wrongly dated as being made in 1327 under King Edward III.

But two researchers have now found that the "copy" is a rare original from 1300 issued by King Edward I and is worth millions of dollars, although Harvard does not intend to sell it.

Seriously deep sleeper not woken up by ship crashing in his garden

A cargo ship has crashed into a man's front garden in Norway, missing his home, where he was sleeping, by just a few metres.

Johan Helberg had been sound asleep when a 135m long container ship ran aground Thursday morning in the Trondheimsfjord off Byneset in Trondheim.

No injuries or oil spills have been reported, and authorities plan to remove the ship at high tide.

Forty-seven hurt including four children by driver who smashed into Liverpool parade after leaving a BAR: Footage shows white British suspect's car being attacked before 30mph rampage

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...hy-parade.html

That headline sounds like it was written by a politician to head off any Terrorism links, if only they would do the same for these Migrant scum eh, but that's not going to happen is it?. What really should happen though is a monthly crime report from every constituency, whether that be a pensioners knickers being stolen off the washing line to rapes and murders. That would show everyone at a glance which police force is sat on their asses and which one's don't even bother to investigate anything.

I class every person a non British subject if their ancestors weren't born here, and that goes the same for my favourite doctor who is Taiwanese, just because you want to rip her panties off doesn't make her a British citizen now does it.

There'll be more updates on this event over the next few days, but the overriding factor in the news reports will be White and No Terrorism links, the Real British Voters are so bleeding gullible I could smack them all with a baseball bat.

An important story about the things that really matter in life. A brave woman telling it like it is...doesn't mince words

Our council sucks bigtime, corruption, nepotism, minority ( usual suspects ) rule. Basically a dictatorship for 30 or more ( pun ) years.

Go Lady Chu .....just down the road from my place.

Cheese-loving daredevils hurl themselves down Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire for famous race

Quote:
Dairy-loving daredevils from around the world have descended on Gloucestershire and thrown themselves down Cooper's Hill in the annual cheese-rolling race.

Competitors ran, slid and tumbled down the near-vertical incline in an effort to try and win an 8lb wheel of Double Gloucester - a semi-hard cheese renowned for its strong and savoury flavour.

They were cheered on by thousands of spectators during the notoriously dangerous race - made tougher this year with a harder racetrack due to the recent dry weather.

Several races took place this year, with German YouTuber Tom Kopke winning the first men's downhill race.

"It was crazy. This year was different," said the 23-year-old from Munich after retaining the title he won last year.

"Last year the hill was muddy and this year it was dry and dangerous and people got injured.

"I shut off my brain and went for it.

"All the people at the top said they were going to steal my title but this is mine.

"I worked for this. I risked my life for this. It's my cheese. Back to back."

Haribo is recalling packets of sweets in the Netherlands after some were found to contain traces of cannabis.

Several people, including multiple members of one family, reported feeling unwell after eating from a 1kg pack of Haribo Happy Cola F!ZZ.

A spokesperson for the food safety body in the Netherlands (NVWA) said some had reported "dizziness" after eating the sweets. The agency told Dutch broadcaster SBS6 that "samples were taken and cannabis was found in them".

A Haribo spokesperson told the BBC it was working with police to "establish the facts around the contamination".

A glacier collapse has destroyed more than 90% of the village of Blatten (Canton Valais, Switzerland), the remainder has been flooded. The population had been evacuated 10 days earlier, the last evacuee was a lame cow which was flown out by helicopter.

Quote:
Blatten - Situation Report - 11:30 a.m.
Almost the entire Birch Glacier above Blatten in the Lötschental valley has broken off, triggering a massive landslide. The resulting deposit of ice and debris, several dozen meters thick and approximately two kilometers long, has buried most of the village of Blatten. The damage is significant. The debris is blocking the outflow of the Lonza River, causing a lake to form. The main danger lies in the behavior of the dammed water and the Lonza River – an overflow over the deposit area could trigger a debris flow avalanche. One person is currently missing. Significant forces are being deployed to the scene. The army is on site to assess the situation and is ready to mobilize additional resources. Civil defense is also deployed. The population is urged to urgently follow the authorities' instructions and not to enter the affected area. The cantonal command body (KFO) is continuously analyzing the situation. The Canton of Valais promises to use all available resources to provide the best possible support to the affected population.
Most of the Birch Glacier and the overlying debris cone above Blatten have collapsed. At the valley floor, the resulting mass of ice and debris, several dozen meters thick and approximately two kilometers long, has buried a significant portion of the village of Blatten. One person is missing. As a result of the debris, the outflow of the Lonza River was blocked, forming a lake that flooded the remaining buildings. The focus is on the potential discharge behavior of the water and the Lonza River, as an overflow could trigger a debris flow. For this purpose, the storage capacity of the Ferden dam further downstream has been increased. As part of precautionary measures, some buildings in the municipalities of Wiler and Kippel have been evacuated.
Significant instabilities remain on the Kleiner Nesthorn, affecting several hundred thousand cubic meters of rock. There is a risk of debris flows on both sides of the valley. The debris, consisting of rock, ice, and water, located on the valley floor is also unstable; debris flows are also possible within this deposit. This makes any intervention in the disaster area impossible at this time.
To manage the crisis, the cantonal command body has mobilized additional resources in addition to its existing resources. The army, for its part, conducted an initial on-site assessment to determine specific needs. The day before, the Cantonal Emergency Services (KFO) had already requested specific relief measures in the form of pumps, clearing vehicles, debris removal, and lighting masts, and requested air transport for this purpose. Civil Defense is offering support, and specialist engineering firms have also been called in. The cantonal road from Goppenstein towards Blatten will remain closed to all traffic until further notice, except for residents and emergency vehicles. The public is urgently requested to strictly follow the authorities' instructions and not to enter the affected area.

A show inside a cathedral featured raw chickens in diapers. The German president was in the audience

Quote:
BERLIN (AP) — A performance inside a Catholic cathedral in Germany earlier this month that featured raw, plucked chickens wrapped in diapers onstage — and the country’s president and the local archbishop in the audience — has prompted the church and municipal leaders to apologize that the show “hurt religious feelings.”

The show, “Westphalia Side Story,” was part of a May 15 celebration to mark the 1,250th anniversary of Westphalia, a region in northwestern Germany.

Video footage shows one woman and two shirtless men singing “Fleisch ist Fleisch” (“Meat is meat”) — apparently spoofing Austrian band Opus’ 1984 pop song “Live is Life” — with scythes and dancing with the dead chickens on a stage in front of Paderborn Cathedral’s altar.

Performance company bodytalk said in a statement Friday that the show featured work-in-progress excerpts from “Westphalia Side Story” — which references the American musical “West Side Story.”

The finished show, which will premiere in September, is supposed to be part of the 1,250th anniversary’s cultural programming.

“It was not meant to be a spoof at all,” bodytalk cofounder Rolf Baumgart said in an email to The Associated Press. “As Westphalia is a rural dominated region with a turbulent history our research was focused on that.”

Confusion reigned on German autobahns and highways at the start of one of the busiest holiday breaks of the year on Thursday after Google Maps wrongly indicated that vast swathes of them were closed.

People using the navigation service around major conurbations such as Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin on motorways between western, northern, south-western and central Germany were confronted with maps sprinkled with a mass of red dots indicating stop signs. The phenomenon also affected parts of Belgium and the Netherlands.

A controversial flag invited art gallery visitors to ‘please walk on me.’ It lasted 19 days

Quote:
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — A New Zealand flag printed with the words “please walk on me” and laid on the floor of an art gallery has once again been packed away following public outcry, 30 years after protests forced the removal of the same artwork.

The Suter Art Gallery in the city of Nelson said Thursday it had taken down the work by Māori artist Diane Prince due to escalating tensions and safety fears. The episode mirrored an Auckland gallery’s removal of the work amid public backlash and complaints to law enforcement in 1995.

This time, the flag was meant to remain on display for five months. Instead, it lasted just 19 days, reigniting long-running debates in New Zealand over artistic expression, national symbols and the country’s colonial history.

Police told The Associated Press on Friday that officers were investigating “several” complaints about the exhibition.
