US military destroys two Houthi vessels in Red Sea

US military forces have neutralized two vessels belonging to Yemeni Houthi militants in the Red Sea, reports the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

In a statement, the US military department reported that the operation took place over the past 24 hours on August 13.

"Over the last 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) successfully destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi vessels in the Red Sea," the post states.

According to the US side, the vessels posed an imminent and direct threat to US and coalition forces, as well as to commercial shipping in the region.

CENTCOM did not specify the class or type of the destroyed Houthi vessels.

"This reckless and dangerous behavior by Iranian-backed Houthis continues to threaten regional stability and security," the US agency added.
