Over 2000 miles of Canals that can actually be navigated!
I'd KILL to have a 54 foot Narrow Boat to just travel as much as I could of those! Granted just the boat itself would cost me over $150,000 and that's NOT brand new! ![]() At 2 or 3 miles per hour, not counting lock times and other reasons to stop? I'd probably die before I could travel all that. |

I've got a mate from way back who bought a narrow-boat the year before last and does just this. I do envy him so. He posts a lot of his pics etc on his Facebook page - so we can properly hate his guts

@Jeff-Groves. I'll sell you a small boat that just came over from France, it's only been used once and it's got a nearly newish outboard motor in it, (by nearly newish I mean built sometime in the last 50 years). It seats up to 30, if you rent it out you could get a 100 in if you're desperate for cash, I'll knock a few quid off for all the puke they left in the bottom of it, what do you say to that then?.

I just watched Season 1 of "Cruising the Cut". May be from 2015 but I'm SO jealous!

You could do it much cheaper in Bangkok.

Went on a narrow boat in 2005 from the Crewe area to Llangollen. I know I can never afford this again but it sure was an experience for a lifetime.

Building boats is not terribly difficult, and it's much cheaper than buying them.
If you can learn to loft lines and offsets, the hardest part is over. And there are a number of good books available about lofting. If you start building and want to use epoxy, just be sure to wear gloves, long sleeves, and use barrier cream. You don't want an epoxy reaction, you'll never be able to use the stuff again. And if you keep getting it on you, it's not a question of IF you'll have a reaction, it's a question of WHEN. Build yourself an Adirondack Guide Boat and head for your local waterways! ![]() |

Best I can probably do is model a narrow boat and cruise the Kiel canal in one of the SH games.

The Erie Canal is closer and if you’re really bold you can keep going and sail the Great Loop.

The Erie, when compared to the Cut in the UK, sucks balls!
May as well travel drainage ditches on a freaking pallet! I've been to the Erie in Ohio and New York. |

I figure I'll take the S-Boot mod and make me a Narrow Boat and cruise the Kiel and Panama Canals in SH3 as a start.

We were supposed to have canals here too.
When Adelaide (Capital of South Australia) was planned out, there were drawings for a canal beween the CBD, and Port Adelaide to transfer supplies to/from the port. If you look at Google maps, and check out Port Road, you'll see the huge nature strip in the middle that was originally allocated for the waterway. Rail came along and thwarted those plans, unfortunately. Last edited by d@rk51d3; 05-26-24 at 07:39 PM. |

Hey, Jeff - I just asked my old pub buddy Trevor if he'd allow me to post a photo of his narrowboat "Muckle" for you and he just replied: "No problem at all Glynn. Link him to Narrowboat Tails if you wish"
"Narrowboat Tails" is the pictorial diary he keeps on Facebook, but which I don't think you do? If you want the link I'll gladly PM it to you. He posts some great pictures, along with all the business of keeping the boat shipshape, operating the locks etc. - I suppose you'd call it a blog ![]()
