I heard a story of a guy that got caught smoking in a place he wasnt supposed to be, so his DI had him dig a regulation grave and have a funeral for the cigarete butt, then bury it and everything - he was so worn out and it made such an impression on him that he never touched a cigarette again
of course there are the stories of mopping the parking lot during a rain shower
military discipline across all services and nations comes in many forms. I can't imagine a lot of dirt and dust gets tracked into the u-boat from the conning tower in the mid atlantic, perhaps it would make more sense if he were mopping instead of sweeping?
I would like to see more varied "chores" - mopping rather than sweeping, device maintenance, and moving external stores in for example.
