Every piece of text and code inside the files that came with SHIII is UBI´s. We can mod them, but without UBI´s permission to do so, something like X1 can take them and sell them. Hell, take could even take the whole TGW mod and make cover art for it and put to shelves. They have permission to mod the files, we dont.

I'm sorry but that is just plain wrong IMO we ( the modding community ) put the hard work in, plus we ( as modders ) are keeping a game alive that could of died ages ago. Yet we are constantly releasing mods FOR FREE , both the NYGM and GW teams are releasing big mods that almost change the entire game, both teams are getting posts relating to people coming back to play SH3 due to these two said mods. but it's the modding community as a whole ( not just NYGM, GW ) that is keeping this game fresh and enjoyable to play.

Totally agree!
Im not an expert on this field but i have picked up that Ubisoft seldom releases patches. And without modders,gamers would lose interest much sooner.

I havent installed GW yet though, but ive noticed that everyone likes it. What is the main difference btw? Will i notice any changes while playing?

Keep up the good work modders ....even if i dont have a clue bout the improvements:p

First, you will see large amounts of traffic in your home harbor (and all other harbors as well); ships moored, ships coming and going, a flotengebleiter to lead you through the friendly minefields and sub nets, and friendly fighters patroling overhead. Inside the dials and gauges are redone to look like they really did. Many of the sound files are changed, using much more realistic-sounding voices and noises. The sea and sky both look better.

Second, enemy behavior is more realistic. Destroyers may be even tougher than they were in the stock game, or they may drive right by without noticing you. Merchants are tougher to sink, and take longer to go down as well. Depth charges are less powerful, having to be closer to you to do damage (this is historically accurate, so don't argue with me:p ). Planes attack in smaller groups but are tougher and deadlier.

Third, there are several optional mods. If you're into hardcore realism you can have it so ships don't appear on the maps at all unless you pass the cursor over them and tag them, and even then it will only say "unknown" unless you mark them with the UZO/periscope. There is an optional graphics mod that makes the sea bottom much more realistic, but it's hard on the PC (which is why it's optional).

Many more goodies I can't remember offhand, but lots of cool stuff.

SS, better but not near good enough, IMO.
The DDs are either too weak or too strong depending on how one tweaks the files (AI_Senors and Sim cfg mostly). I have been going back and forth getting closer and closer to the balance but am still not happy and no one that has released a mod, RUB, SW, GW, NYGM have come close on this point.
Unless someone finds the balance before me (and I would be delighted) I will keep pushing because it is just not there yet. No ones including mine

As for SW-X1 the first release along with the same old cry babies should be history both for crying and considering installing. GW and NYGM are much better.

Seawolves Mediterranean however, is very worth while and I laugh at those <Bleep>, yes <Bleep> that say why buy it when you can get it free because much is not available anywhere but in that add on and having it I know this for a fact

Whether it is worthwhile to you is your choice but even those that have GW-NYGM could install a separate SW-Med and it is different enough to have as a varied experience.
Don't buy it, no one cares but never having had it and knowing what is or is not in it is ridiculous.
If you say you don’t like the people and won’t support them I understand but to say you know what is in it and comment to that shows you are ignorant.
There is one frigate in stock, RUB, GW or NYGM. There are 4 in SW Med as one example of many.
To me a campaign out of Salamis is much better than La Spezia but that is my opinion.
For Med play SW is much better as is the Black Sea but I must admit I never played SW-Med in the Atlantic and my version of GW is more a visual GW as the play I have completely redone with all the convoys and sensors, weapons etc tweaked as IMO, it was all wrong.
But, as we all have an opinion I am sure others rightly feel different and isn’t it nice we can have just what we want.
So, why bash people that want something you don’t?

How you manage to stay a member of this forum and not get banned is beyond me.

You constant direct insults and attacks on members here and modmakers and their mods is getting old.

As you yourself said,everyone has their opinions and those that differ will let others know what other options are available to them.X1 does not have a good background and people have the right to know exactly what went on before they decide to buy from them.

You yourself said..
"But, as we all have an opinion I am sure others rightly feel different and isn’t it nice we can have just what we want.

"

So why dont you practice what you tend to preach.

Anyone who does not agree with you you call idiots and crybabies...

I for one don't care what a person decides to use..but I will give them the other options available and the advantges of them over the other.All you do is go on and on about how your way is the only right way and anyone who does not agree is an idiot.And as of now you just made my ignore list.

The flightsim, trainsim and the racing (just started) community has been doing this for ages so it is no suprise that it has come here... good, bad or otherwise it was bound to happen as people will always look for a way to make a buck

@Pants: The only game I know, that really cares about the community is IL2. Oleg Maddox regularily visits the forums and gives info of the new patches etc.

It is wrong, but this is how the world works. Money, money, money.

I bought and enjoyed the expansion pack to COD.

The screen shots look pretty nice to me, along with:

- New campaign script, new missions, new sounds & graphics;

- Fixes to DD hydrophones;

- Roughly sixty new cities, including ports & industry;

- Naval & airbase locations in Europe, North America, Britain and the Pacific region;

- New objects including ships, search lights, bunkers, minefields & air defenses;

- Enhancements to sub interior and exterior;

- Stationary ships in harbors & harbor patrols;

- Historical activity such as Dunkirk, Dieppe & D-Day;

- New radio messages;

- Escorts out of hazardous harbors;

- Maps showing French harbors and the PTO grid;

- 22 single missions and four multiplayer missions;

- Tutorial for Fire a Spread and Attacking a Convoy;
- & more.

I'd pay 15 bucks (or less once it's out for awhile) for it.

Same here...

Save your money and download the mods for free.

Everything that shegeek72 lists from the add-on can be downloaded for free.
That and the NYGM and GW mods are far superior in quality and contain pretty much everything in that list in 1 big mod plus more that is not in that add-on.

Unreal tournament titles are pretty supportive as well with the modders. They had a mod competition not long ago and winners get a share of 1 million dollars! $350,000 in highend PC's $30,000 in the Maya software plus many other prises. The Red Orchestra mod has won 4 titles. So really is this there way of saying thanks to modders for modding there game. I reckon if the mod is good enough to be taken by the owners and packaged as a add on then the modders should get a percentage of the sales earnings.
