No, you can't do it in Silent Hunter III for some reason. Blame Ubisoft for rushing the game.

Rushing ? Why ? Maybe it was never planned to include that option.

Remember that including all options people demand would result SHIII being released in 2010 and costing 500$. And by that time the graphics would be so outdated that no one would buy it

I don't know, it just seems like such a basic option to me when I think of it.

And it'd be used as a training tool by the German Navy. No, wait...

I think those controls are basically used by people who watch external view and then need to make sharp turns to evade depth charges. Otherwise it would be pretty useless to use that feature in the Atlantic.

I think, but not sure, it was, if at all, mainly used to make tight turns in port.

At least one new problem would be seen with a possiblity to handel the maschines separately: While the boat is recharching its batteries it would be necessary to give some orders to the helm to keep the boat on the course. This would not be a problem in the boats with more than 2 engines, of course.

I don't play with stock water transparency...so I can't watch for those depthcharges. But still....I have no chance of escaping with my rudders destroyed. It really bothers me ... I could have steered with my propellors, and maybe gotten away.
