noooooo "tut" you close your eyes and hit the keyboard and then it will work, the water will part and your sub will grow wheels and you can drive on the sea bed towards the now "beached ship" and use harsh language at it:rotfl:

That will only lead you to the darkside Luke ... do not give in to anger!

P.S. Should I have quoted that?

I'm looking forward to it.
That's exactly what I do...well, not the 3-minute rule part. I just let the Weapons Officer do his job, and take the shot.

I loved leaving Lorient using the Harbour Traffic mod and not seeing any ships on my map, it meant I had to stay on the bridge and keep my eye out for any collisions. Mind you it doesn't help that the watch crew get in the way, I suppose I'll have to send most of them below decks until we clear the traffic. Is there a "transparent" watch crew mod?
When I leave port I just enjoy the view, watch crew and all. If I want to look at something, I use the binocs; magic, no watch crew.

Sure it's not easy getting a good range with the stadimeter in rough seas, but it is possible. I've been using that method for a long time with manual targeting and hit over 90%. So it is possible to use effectively.

FWIW, the weapons officer had no responsibility in regards to obtaining targeting information on German uboats. It's been talked about plenty, this was indeed the job of the captain or the exec perhaps when surfaced. Using the WO for targeting is fine if that's your thing, but the information that the WO gives in SH3 is an aid, and an always prefectly accurate one at that, something to make the sim easier, not more realistic in any way.

That's good, I thought it would be impossible. I'd prefer to go from my 40 odd percent realism right to 100%. I've played the game too long with the simple point and shoot and sink 70,000 tons a patrol. So I don't mind if I miss, or even come back with nowt. Besides I think I've read enough to know what to do. I won't bother with the WO, I was only going to use him for range anyway. I'll try the stadimeter. Thanks
