Problem #1 - you've installed SH3 under \Program Files (x86)\ - this is a protected directory and Windows will prevent MODS from writing to it changing the files.

Problem #2 (possibly) - you've described what appears to be changes to en_menu.txt that are described in Stiebler's addon to h.sie's mod. You shouldn't be using this without having already installed h.sie's mod.

Problem #3 - Tycho's patch won't work on a steam version of SH3 without having installed h.sie's mod.

Problem #4 - if you are using ARB WideGui with the SH3 Commander files it comes with, there are en_menu.txt changes that get written to the \SH3 Commander\U-boat\ folder as a result of the VIIC-41 and VIIC-42.

*Easiest* thing to do in the long run is the following:

1. Completely uninstall and delete the SH3 save game folder from \USER\My Documents\SH3.

2. Re-install to a *clean* directory (something like C:\SilentHunterIII-BASE) Note the complete lack of spaces. Wherever you install SH3, the folder can't have any spaces in the name.

3. Use MultiSH3 to create a working copy of the game (something like C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX).

4. Install the 4GB patch.

5. Install GWX. And run it once to make sure a vanilla GWX install works.

6. Install all of your mods up to ARB WideGUI.

7. Install h.sie's mod and Stiebler's mod and then make sure you shut down JSGME.

8. Follow the directions for running HsieOptionsSelector and save it.

9. Apply Tycho's Patch. At this point, you should have all of your mods activated.

10. Create a *new* folder under C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\MODS. Call it something like "Stieblers Manual Addons"

11. In that new folder, create three additional folders. You should end up with three folder trees: C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\MODS\Stieblers Manual Addons\Data\Menu, C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\MODS\Stieblers Manual Addons\Data\Library, and C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\MODS\Stieblers Manual Addons\Data\Cfg

12. Copy the en_menu.txt and menu_1024_768.ini files from C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\Data\Menu to the \Data\menu folder listed in step 11. Change these files as per the instructions for the Stiebler Addon (adding to en_menu.txt and changing menu_1024_768.ini)

13. Copy the commands_en.cfg from C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\Data\Cfg to the \Data\Cfg folder listed in Step 11. Change this file as per the instructions for the Stiebler Addon (adding to commands_en.cfg)

14. Copy the AI_Sensors_GWX.dat file (should be in the same folder where it tells you to ADD_to_your_commands_en.txt, ADD_to_your_en_menu.txt and CHANGE_your_menu_1024_768.ini) to the \Data\Library\ folder listed in Step 11. Rename it to AI_Sensors.dat

15. Run JSGME and apply your new Stieblers Manual Addons mod.

16. I don't know for certain, but you *may* need to manually copy the changes to en_menu.txt to the en_menu.txt files in \SH3 Commander\U-Boat\VIIC41 and \VIIC42 after applying ARB WideGUIs mods to SH3 Commander. Or you could create a mod for SH3 Commander just like you modded above, taking the en_menu.txt files from SH3 Commander\U-boat\VIIC41\data\Menu and \VIIC42\data\Menu and placing them into SH3 Commander\MODS\SH3 Commander\U-boat\VIIC41\data\Menu and \VIIC42\data\Menu and then adding the additional message to them. I normally install SH3 Commander into my SH3 folder, add a MODS folder under SH3 Commander, and install a 2nd copy of JSGME into the SH3 Commander folder so that I can mod SH3 Commander independently of SH3 itself.

Note - when you apply Stiebler's Addon, you *will* significantly change several aspects of the game - primarily losing your stealth meter which now becomes a weather gauge. You may also experience conflicts between it and ARB WideGUI regarding what each of the icons/buttons does (I don't know for certain, I've only ever installed Stiebler's addon into NYGM without ARB WideGUI.)

Component info= of course get h.sie add-on comes off you patch the exe to h.sie, same but steibler, only if you patched the exe first with h.sie and then with steibler.

You can use steibler with magui ws3.4 (to use with caws needs to modify files).magui didn't have weather or stealth.
Mtg some time shield I add it. Like the hull integrity by color.

Vital= turn of abandon ship in steibler settings or you will blow up your ubout accidentally. If you need it.save, exit, change the setting, run exe, load and abandon the ship

Thank you for the long and detailed reply! I apreciate it. Just finished the ongoing career so im going to start with all this.

First issue im running into is that Steam wont allow me to install Steam games in a different folder in the same drive, so I dont know what im going to do about that. Will look into it tomorrow. Cheers!

One Library folder per drive. If you only have one, and SH3 is the only game, it might be easier to re-install the Steam and the game. else you can read over the "Moving a Steam Installation and Games" article on the Steam Support site. Which ever way you do it, expect a long time with Steam...

Do a search for SFSF Starforce-Free and Steam Fix.

Unless you have a lot of steam games, just uninstall steam and reinstall steam to somewhere other than c:\Program Files (x86)\ and then reinstall SH3 as a virgin copy before using SFSF.

Sorry for the wait, being busy etc

Well ive managed to reach the multish3 and install GWX in a different folder part, but it will not allow me to run the game, I get this:

Application load error 2:0000065558

Stam folder is now C:\Steam
while the new folder ive created for the multish3 is C:\THEGRAYWOLVES

I assume its got to do with not running the game in the folder Steam has it set to. Any idea how to fix that? ive looked around google and subsim but i cant find anything concrete. Thank you...

Yes - use SFSF.
