As does the Laika/Husky:
The Russian defense ministry probably swaps out the screw for the real secret propulsor after all the celebrations.

The submarines in ikalugin's library pictures are the ones you have to worry about ... You can hear the surface craft pinging 60 miles away

Plenty of time to turn tail and run, but then the bad boys on helio's will hear you too. Perhaps we all should just say, "Peace unto you brothers"

He means that those new russian submarines have a good sonar detection, so they can easily outmanouver an active sonar already from 60 miles or so.
Still helicopters may get you, so he says it is best for all to keep the peace.

Or so I think..

Correct translation, plus I left out the new unmanned sub hunters and the UAW's the future for subs is not good except for protecting carriers that is

Ahh, thanks. Well this would obviously depend on the conditions and the type of active pinger I guess.

Why? Screws work unless you absolutely need to maintain high tactical speeds in shallow waters and we plan to operate SSNs in deep waters.
