In a tactical situation, when I have a lot going on and need to keep myself aware of what's going on with a minimum amount of effort and juggle my 12 sonar trackers between maneovers, I find the Russian sonar to be a much better sonar interface for the heat of the battle.

The waterfall is great for searching and localizing, but can quickly become a useless mess if there is a lot going on... and the Akula narrowband is MUCH easier to use than the Western bearing scan displays, especially when you have 100 things going on.

Plus, I really like the red color.

For myself, it is the 688(i) fast attack boat. I don't know what it is, perhaps I feel comfortable with it because of all the hours I spent in it in the original 688(i) Hunter Killer game. When I drive this platform in this sim, it is like driving an old reliable car where you know where everything is and what every sound is emanating from.

I also like the look of the panel stations, straightforward, nononsense and superbly functional. There is something about the green waterfall display in the sonar station that just does it for me. I can spend hours staring at that display...

Because green colour has calmative affect and red inteface makes people more disturbed and agrresive.I gues thats why most of Akula drivers that I know are so crazy in the game.

What about the seawolf then ?
If the us navy went for red-orange interfaces (frigate, seawolf) it must have some redeeming qualities over the green colored interfaces.

How do you beat crazy Akulas' crew? By making Seawolf crew mad, just by looking at bright colours of their screens!

I like the 688 the best, its simple and straightforward , but alot about the FFG sonar is good too. The way it displays all possible sonar matches in a drop down list instead of a inefficient scroll, and the bearing ambuiguity buttons make it easy than merging and dropping contacts in the TMA. Its TA depth display is nice two, though I hate the "beam" divisions on the TA.

That FFG TMA is a nightmare though.

The SW's interface is too inefficient. The worst offender the DEMON display, with Inc TPK, Dec TPK, Array select, and Frequency select could all be fitted on one menu, but instead of divided up with more clickyness amongst 4 different menus.

No signal history for the Akula's BB is a disadvantage and its narrowband is harder to distinguish between two seperate tracts on the same bearing. With the LA NB one can look at the subtle strength increases and decreases between the frequency lines to discern with frequencies belong together, with the Akula's NB its impossible to do so.)

The only thing that bothers me about the Russain boats are those terrible Russian accents...

I have the cyrillic (sp?) text mod for the Akula, so it gets my vote. Nothing like a sleek Vepr

So far I am the only who voted for helo! Looks like helo is most unpopular platform in the game. Why?:hmm:

That's exactly how I feel, it's like coming back to an old house, finding everything feels and works just as you left it...and that's three sims ago (or in my case four because I started on Fast Attack)

As for the helo, the helo's cool, got a nice feel to the sonar displays...but it's still the LA boat for me
