The smartest way of changing game files is to use JSGME. In your case, to create a new folder (say, name it "sensor change". In that folder create a new folder "data", and in that folder a new folder "library". Copy the original file "sensors.dat" there. Make the changes you want to that file, then cut/paste the folder "sensor change" to the MODS folder. Once there, run jsgme and enable the mod you've just created. You just need to create the same folder/file structure as the file(s) you want to change. Please note that if you already have previous mods enabled, and they have changed the file(s) in question, your new mod will be based on the current file and not necessarily that of the original game. This can cause problems if, later on, you disable previous mods and then try running yours. For example, you want to change "sensors.dat". If you have mods enabled that have already made changes to "sensors.dat", and you use the current "sensors.dat" file to make your mod, if you then disable the previous mod that made changes, when you run your mod it'll install the same changes to that file as the previous mod did. This can be a good, or bad, thing, depending on your circumstances. It's a good thing when you want all previous mods to always be running, and you just want to tweak a couple of settings. It can be a bad thing when you've made a complicated mod based on your current settings, and later on want to install a must-have mod, or want to remove/replace current mods, that also makes changes to the same file(s). |
