Quick note: The sub is based off of one in a novel I have been working on for a couple years now. The description gives some of her history, as it pertains to the story.

Description=Type XXVI Moljnir
History=The type XXVI U boat was a planned project to create a submarine which could travel at high speeds, while remaining submerged, using the Walter propulsion system. Of the class, as part of project Walküre (Valkyrie), only the first boat numbered 4501 was actually completed. Featuring a new VLS system which allowed the submarine to carry up to eight guided missiles, along with her usual complement of torpedoes; it was expected that the class would be able to finally break the back of the allied blockade. However, this was not to be. On July 19, 1944, Moljnir slipped from her hidden port and made a break for open waters. One day later, her lead designer, Gunther Voss was found dead in his Berlin apartment leaving behind a cryptic note that stated that "Moljnir now lay in the hands of the Valkyrie, who had taken her to Valhalla." It was believed, at the time, that the crew had mutinied, as part of the plot to kill Hitler, and were on their way to turn the submarine over to the allies. It is unknown if this is the case, as any information relating to the Moljnir is currently classified. To further deepen the mystery, from time to time, there have been reported sightings of the submarine over the years, with no nation laying claim to her presence.
