Rememeber, you don't have to have your TA out beyond half length unless you want to drag it under a layer.
I use the midwaypoint of the TA as my "standard length" and then adjust the cable to be longer or shorter depending on my situation. In 385ft, if you keep the TA at about half length, you should be able to go 7-10kts and keep it off the bottom.
