Sounds like you're based in Australia. Those guys were famous for micro-managing their sub captains and sending them to barren wastelands to patrol for.......lobsters, I guess.

Pearl Harbor was more freewheeling, sending subs to large patrol areas with few specific instructions on how to conduct business. This fostered a more freewheeling, personal initiative driven patrol style. If a sub came back once without any score, it was sent out again. The second empty patrol the captain was sent to other opportunities. Aggresive captains loved the system. Timid ones applied for transfer to Australia.

Especially with a sugar boat you are very much a prisoner of your assigned area. There are some very productive areas under Australia's control. Hope you get sent to one of them. And remember contacts are difficult to develop in the best of areas. What's your hunting strategy?

You know, there's always more action than you can handle at Rabaul!
