Of all the Presidents of the 20th century, Jimmy Carter is and will remain, the one President who most used the influence of his former office in the aid of humanitarian pursuits. His Nobel was well deserved in 2002 and he has done even more since then to further burnish his legacy. I very much admire that he doesn't just talk the talk, he also walks the walk. I wish him the best going forward and hope he makes a good recovery...

I'll always have a soft spot for Jimmy. Even if he often seemed to be in over his head.

May not think he was the best president or even a decent one but I can't dispute the fact that he's done more post-office to help humanity then any other president. Here's hoping you get better Jimmy.

Lousy President and then graduated to the best ex-President in history. He leveraged his former office to do good for humanity. We wish him the best.

Anyone remember the giant rabbit attack of 1979?

Terrible President, followed a flawed and failed ideology but truly a good man, which is RARE among politicians. Hope things go well for him and he sticks around a while. The only Democratic President I would love to meet.

I don't even think he was that bad of a president. He was up against a lot of tough problems in a horrible economy. I am sure he did the best he could.

But I do feel he is the best ex-president we have had in my lifetime.

He didn't get America into any costly wars, he helped reduce nuclear weapons levels, created the Superfund to deal with environmental disasters on US soil, and helped create a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.
Honestly, the US has had far worse presidents, admittedly there were bungles in foreign and domestic policy, but as Platapus put it, he got thrown several pretty damn hard balls and it wasn't as if he didn't try to hit them.

Heck, it was down to this that we got the crazy YMC-130H which is a plane that just looks at the laws of physics and shrugs.
