Apparently in real life destroyers couldn't use sonar (ASDIC) in shallow water. This mod prevents escorts from doing so in SH3.

Indeed - the scattered reflections off the bottom completely masked any from an "underwater target". It was sometimes possible to get direction, but not range.

Another thing that's not reflected in the game is that the blast from depth charges going off near the bottom was also scattered and diffused. The US sub S-38 used this to good advantage at Lingayen Gulf in December 1941, grounding several times and finally escaping a long and severe punishment in shallow water.

The problem is also that simple missions that are available are hard. No run successful missions where one lucky and everything goes well, if all ends like a rat fleeing the siege of the enemy warships, with the ubiquitous "ping" the asdic and depth charges. That's where you end up getting tired of the game because it always happens the same.
