Just the other day at a family gathering a cousins stepson who is in AP history thought that Christopher Columbus was from Columbia. He had no idea why WWII or WWI was fought or why we celebrate the 4th of July nor who King George was.

I think a blood vessel in my brain exploded but that might have been because while this conversation was held I firmly gripped my fork and it made my hand go numb. I might need a CT scan. But I did manage to give a brief history of the world from Renaissance to modern times.

No he didn't say any of that he just didn't know much. He plans on joining the military so obviously if he where taught that the US was evil he either doesn't believe it or has a rebellious personality.

I got the point of Platpus post. This was an example of a below average kid. He dosent seem to hang around the other younger family members(being blood relation to myself) so he's the below average kid avoiding the superior peers.

I apologize. It seemed to me that you missed that it was a joke, based on the concept (as repeated by August) that half of anything is going to be below average. If an entire school gets 98, 99 and 100 on a test, the 98s are below the 99 average.
