Default how can people misinterpret simple information ?

Some years ago we could hear and see following in a Danish news program

"95% of bodily harm crime is committed by persons of non-Danish origin."

Some hours later, I could read comments on FB. and many of these comments made me wonder.

Are many of my friends or their friends bad in math ? Or they interprets the information based on their political beliefs

Here are what many wrote.

"Here my friends are the evidence which many people on the left refuses to see, 95 % of our foreigners are criminal"

No it does not say that 95 % of our foreigners are criminal, it says, 95 % of this type of crime is committed by foreigners and that's a big different.

(This thread is NOT about how criminal our foreigners are. It's a thread about how people interpreting the information they get)

Of course they can also provide information that is selectively worded in order to place a slant on what is being said.

Take anything said during a campaign various groups will take what is said and place their positive or negative slant to it. Same with statistics released by a government agency or private research (both of which in and of themselves may be trying to lead) another group can take that data and go to town.

Could very well be and yes any statistics should be taken by a grant of salt.

This statistic I mentioned 95 % is based on the trials and sentenced in these cases in 95 % of all trials the person, accused of the crime was of non-Danish origin.

Still this does not mean that 95 % of our foreigners are criminal.

About 12-15 % of our foreigners have been convicted(year 2012)

Despite all the money spent on education, almost half of the students are still below average.

Just the other day at a family gathering a cousins stepson who is in AP history thought that Christopher Columbus was from Columbia. He had no idea why WWII or WWI was fought or why we celebrate the 4th of July nor who King George was.

I think a blood vessel in my brain exploded but that might have been because while this conversation was held I firmly gripped my fork and it made my hand go numb. I might need a CT scan. But I did manage to give a brief history of the world from Renaissance to modern times.

Below is a simple visual guide to my reaction;

The important point of the statistic: your country is welcoming in immigrants and "95% of bodily harm crime in your country is committed by some of those immigrants."

If you did not have those immigrants in your country, think of how much less bodily harm crime there would be to put up with.

I know, the PC police are going to say, "Neal doesn't like immigrants." Dumb and not true, I like legal immigrants, and if the crime went down with their entry into my country, I would like them even more.
