there are a lot of little quirks and things with this game that are damn frustrating and we forget about them after a while so its not easy to warn new members of all of them.
you will also have some times when the game gets stuck in a loop telling you something like thermal layer or crew stay on deck under water, crew wont go on deck when surfaced, o2 wont refresh when surfaced, and several similar little oddities like the weather wont change. if you come across these just save and reload the game and it fixes it. you will also discover the game cheats and a destroyer will know your exact undiscovered position and race in right on top of you stopping on a dime to drop depth charges from as far as 8000m away. the ships guns are unrealistically "sniper" accurate and hit you with more regularity then todays laser guided smart bombs. |

the best way to describe it is they didn't make a new game from scratch, they just recreated the game into something new by using a better game engine and tweaking the files to use different content. I would bet sh3 also contains large chunks of files from the sh2 game. you see this when you are modding and you find two of the same files where one is used and the other isn't, this is because (for example) in sh3 maybe it used the "color blue.tga" file but in sh4 they changed the game engine so now it needs a "color blue.dds" file it uses, yet the old file was never removed even though it was replaced by another file. there seamed to be no thought given to cleaning things up and removing any and all unused files in the game. I suspect this is because with sh4 and sh5, they stopped development before the game was even finished Last edited by Webster; 02-23-15 at 08:31 PM. |
