Default Other Submarine forums?

Looking for all the info I can gather on SSN-571 (USS Nautilus) for my subsim project. Any one have any suggestions for forums where I might find retired navy vets or just history buffs that might be able to tell me more about her systems and layout? There is SO little information on the net about her its amazing, considering shes still afloat as a museum peice.

Not looking down on the Radio Room, just looking for more die-hard fans that might want to spread their knowledge.

Thanks.

I see you've already been over to the Sub and Naval discussions forum.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=197714

There is one last thing you can do check all of the old veterans homes for any sailors that were on the Nautilus SS-571.

My grandfather was on SS-573 but it was a diesel boat back in the 1960's.

Good luck with your project ... we had a group go up to New London and took some pictures. Do a research right here on subsim.

Neal, the link is inoperative. Just a '404 file not found'.

I've bypassed the meter, so that can't be the problem, however, this is all I get:

Very mysterious.

Neal might be able to get you in touch with Bill Nichols if he's heard from him lately, Bill served on the Nautilus:

Alas, Bill told me he was moving from DC to Alabama 4 years ago and I have not heard from him since I've sent him several emails and postcards, so all I can assume is he does not wish contact, or something worse. Hopefully, he is ok.

No word of Bill either, but I've only really been in contact with a D.W. who has been kind enough to send me plans, layouts, and drawings of 571. Even though he says there's no reason they shouldn't be publicly available I'm hanging onto them my little secret.

And these guys dont want a cheque (of course no one at that age knows what a PayPal is) or anything, just the same love we share for these boats.

*Sigh* what a generation.
