An old question...
You're nearly out of fuel and it's time to go home... First, put the protractor on the inbound point. Draw a line 135 degrees (South West). Leave it there... You need to put one way point on the previous line, the last one on the inbound point. So your boat will automatically stop and face the canal at 45 degrees angle. Ask your navigator to calculate the course. That's it!
