Temperatures about the same here as swamprat's, but we've dodged any significant snow so far. Just a light dusting on the ground!
Walked a couple of miles earlier but decided to stop after it got dark and the sidewalks started getting icy ![]() |

We got 6" on the lawn and about 1.5" of it has come down since I plowed the drive way.

It was right at dark and my target was an outline...so it's probably true.

We've had farmers up here paint C O W in florescent orange paint on their cattle to save them from deer hunters. Didn't help....One cow got shot at anyway.

I was hinting at booze. But that is okay, I like the fact that young people can go out and have a good time without going home wasted.
![]() When I was a lot younger I used to be in love with walking in winter, too. Now, winter is still my favourite time of year. The sound on a really cold night (-30F and down) of a lake 'tightening up', the ice that is already on the lake and the water underneath it freezes and expands. When it does that the existing ice will crack and snap. I am talking about a foot or so of ice. I can set my own schedule in winter and there are absolutely NO mosquitoes or black flies. The farthest I walk now is to one of the two garages for either my Jeep or the tractor. We got another 4" since I plowed, so I will have to go out about 10 or so and plow again. I have 2 disabled people I plow for and another one that is in Princess Margaret Hospital getting chemo. He usually plows himself out, but just before he left he asked me to look after his lane for him. He will be gone for about 6 weeks. More than likely I will do his lane all winter long.

Don't want to be blue...
Booze and the cold do not mix well. Some think the firewater will warm them up. In reality, your body has to fight off the cold while processing the alcohol, giving you a double whammy and you could end up frozen in a ditch somewhere.
![]() I'm with Red in wishing to maintain control of my faculties. We're under a winter weather advisory here overnight. Snow, sleet and freezing rain. ![]() Had my coal bunker filled Friday and we're set for heat until March bby. ![]() Last winter was colder than a witch's heart and I see no significant global warming change for this year either. Contemplating getting a snow blower and saving my already totaled out back.

The sleet and freezing rain I can live without, bring on the snow! I still have almost half of my wood order to get and piled in the basement. IMHO, global warming is a figment of someones imagination and a topic I try to stay away from. If you get a snow blower, get a two stage with electric start (plug it into house hydro and hit the starter button, they still have a recoil starter too) and use only high test (gas without ethanol) in it. Ethanol will rot out your fuel lines and gum up the carburetor in one season. Remember, you aren't getting any younger and we don't need you having a heart attack after/during shoveling.

Not much chance of that in the UK this side of Christmas I'd say.
Met office forecast for Christmas day here has Santa in his flippers and snorkel. |
