Schroeder is correct. The USDOT figures the average speed for a semi to be 40 miles per hour. Anything logged over that speed and they'll think they're within their rights to write you up for speeding or whatever other infraction they deem fit to use in stealing your moolah.
When I was running team, I could put more than 320 miles behind me when running all interstate from start to end of an 8 hour shift but, if I logged more than that, the safety department would flag me for it and bitch a little. I'm certain that repeated infractions would have given them grounds for termination. ![]() Add in pre- trip inspection, breaks and the odd fuel stop here and there and your mileage decreases even more. The DOT is still lagging behind in regard to the capabilities of modern equipment. Their regs are still languishing in the days of the Rolls-Canhardlies. ![]()
