Default 9/11

Seems we do a thread about every year, but I don't see one. Let this one be just to remember all those lost that day. My Uncle was killed there in Tower 1. I hadn't seen him in over a decade, but a favorite as a kid.

Sure we all remember what and where we were that day. I was driving down I-40 to Asheville NC for a job meeting and it came in on the radio. Stayed up all night it seems watching it on tv.

Also, salute to a good friend in my old hood that lost his son in Afghanistan. He was 20 years old.

Condolences to all who suffered a loss as a direct or indirect result of that heinous day.

I watched it all on TV as it occurred and remember becoming so angry that it brought tears to my eyes.

My son was then just baby lying in his mother's arms and it was a beautiful Summers day outside. It made it all the more unreal to see what we were seeing live on television. I remember feeling numbed...

My cousin took the subway and got off at the Trade Center. She had just exited the lobby onto the street when the first plane struck. She told us at a family gathering shortly thereafter that she saw the people jumping from the tower. Visibly shaken she turned and left the room.

I was on duty that day. Wolferz, I was at Sta 16 at the time. We were doing our regular routine when we got a call about it.

I was in Germany at the time I was working with another airman on a generator. We heard something on the shop radio tuned into armed forces network about a small plane flying into the World Trade course this was before it was clear what was going down. This around 1300 (+6 hours of Eastern time).

About 20 minutes later they raised the THREATON to Charlie but we kept working. A few minutes after that they pulled everyone aside and said that two planes hit in the middle of this briefing was when the Pentagon got hit. I'll never forget that because air got real heavy. Of course that put things to THREATCON DELTA. That was hairy because at that point we had no idea what might come next. I think over the next day or two I was able to nap for 40 minutes and I ate one peanut butter sandwich.

I'll never forget the memories of watching it all unfold on the news channel.
