I would go with the focus it is the lower cost to own.Better MPG it has better saftey features than an 80's car.
I'd avoid the charger that turbo is more than likely on its last legs and turbocharged engines have shorter life spans an addtional negative they require high octane fuel while a focus will run fine on 87. The Charger was rated @ 20/27 mpg when new so yeah gas guzzler. The specs that I can find list the shelby turbo @ 146hp after 28 years you might get 125hp so in fact a focus will have about the same output or better. You want for basic transportation the vechile that will be easy to keep running. Also if you get into another accident do you what a less common car or one with an airbag? With an older ride you accept the added risk of older saftey equipment. Not worth the trade off when the driver has less experiance. Not saying you are bad driver but you do lack experiance.
