Engine volume?

I have gone into the data of the main game file rasied the ext sound to triple but I think I saved in wrong format cause the game ctd I dont know where in Power sound it tells me what format its in. I have gone into the mods and changed the volume there and still nothing maybe I am not going deep enough into the files but I am not having to translate anything my computer is showing the files in english. I dont know guys I have fiddled with it a lot and not getting anything to change in game now outside of the game in the Power sound software the file changes so odd.....
