Ran across a person complaining of Airplanes guns being to powerful, would love to have the files he hates haha. Tried the Airpower mod 1.4c but I did not like how if you stay surfaced with your sub, the planes do not release there bombs or depth charges until you dive, kinda silly. Is there a way to improve accuracy of airplanes dropping bombs and depthcharges? Also would like to take causalities faster with crew on bridge from continuous airplanes staffing sub. Anyhow thanks for reply.

Here is what he wrote:

NYGM 3.6
--------

(Note: The Shells.zon file is only changed with the NYGM V2.5, so should work onk with all mods that do not change this file)
(Note: GWX players can check this when JSGME displays the changefile record when enabling the mod, and make changes accordingly)

Starting playing SH3 after a year or 2 more of IL2, where you learn how difficult it is for even an 50 Cal, 20mm AP or He, to bring down a plane - I suddenly find that those buzzard ASW aircraft have 'The Force' behind them, and can sink a sub with even a 7.62mm. A somewhat peeved Kaleun decided to change the course of this war.

From WW2 history aircraft cannons 20mm and smaller had very little effect on a sub other than suppression fire, so that the aircraft could get on close to drop DCs or Bombs.

There is AFAIK no record of any 20mm sinking or disabling a sub. The UBoat subs pressure hull was of a high quality high strength steel, plus the superstructure, rendered anything from 20mm APs and smaller all but useless for sinking/disabling purposes.

Added to this, I don't think SH3 takes into account that penetration depth (or effectiveness) of any shell falls drastically with range. This requires an aircraft to be close to be effective, which would certainly guarantee it's quick demise.
Single long range ASW aircraft were very scared of the Uboats AAA and did their utmost to stalk their prey and attack when surprise would be almost complete.
The Dual ASW attack involved an aircraft for suppression fire, and a lurking aircraft with rockets or DC's.

On investigation into SH3 folders, I found that all ASW aircraft in the (..\sh3\data\Air..) folder have only AP cannons, and that can damaged your hull 'willy nilly' - This, is in fact, so far from reality that I made a few changes to ALL aircraft 20mm AP cannon penetration depth - Reducing the value from 22.5mm to 10mm.

The Shell parameters for the ASW aircraft are in the (..\sh3\data\Library..) Shells.zon file and fall under these 3 'AmmoDamageInfo' tags.

NB: THESE MIGHT BE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE MODS.....

0x3a65f923c98196cc
0x4ebc512bc98196cc
0xfa9f1d0fc98196cc

Under these tags I've only made adjustments to the AP=10.0 values.

This more or less puts SH3 reality back on track, where you will take damage from DC's or bombs, but cannot take hull damage from 'small calibre' gunfire.
If you choose to fight it out on the surface you can loose crew.. the choice is yours.

Anyhow thanks for reply Sailor Steve!

I've created a JSGME ready mod for the reduced AP effectiveness described above using SH3ditor for myself. I wanted to ask a quick question before I activate it. Will those edited figures for armour penetration reduce the affectiveness of the u-boats AA capabilities as well? Are those edited figures for all bullets in the sim or just those fired from ASW aircraft?

Also would you give me permission to upload the JSGME ready mod to subsim so others can easily install it into their games without having to access complicated .zon files themselves? I ask this because technically I have plagerised your work if I just go ahead and upload it.

Not sure on that. I know I am allot happier now after taking the Shells.zon from NYGM and some of the files from Airpower 1.4c, Airplanes much dangerous and deadlier now. Might see if there is something I can use from Increased_ASW_a Mod, its made for GWX 2.0 Though.

Thanks for Help!
