Ahead Standard is best compromise between time and fuel, stay at 2/3 once in area for patrol. That is how it was done in real life as well, ahead standard to and from patrol area.Of course there are variations in each patrol. When I am very far away from base say if patrol area is yellow/east china sea when closest base is midway, may slow to 12 or 13 knots for transit, it saves precious fuel, allows more time on station. This is for TMO 2.5 of course.Yet another failing of stock game, had most efficient fuel use at 10 knots, which is tantamount to harbor speed while crossing the ocean lol.

ETR3(SS) is correct about the mod used.
Fuel consumption is a little worrisome in SH4 since there are no Milch Cows. However, I cruise en-route to station at 9 knots during the day and 8 at night. I try to keep as fuel as possible for intercepts, flank speed burns fuel at an alarming rate especially when going after a task force. In hostile waters (shallow) crawling around at 1-2 knots won't drain the batteries as much so recharging will take less time, and of course bad weather too drinks fuel for little distance. I do manage to have just enough to cruise at 12 knots on the return trip. Hope it helps. |
