The U.S. Capitol is in lockdown, after sources say shots were fired outside.

According to U.S. Capitol Police, officers are injured.

Sirens are going off in the Capitol, and people on the Hill are being told to "shelter in place."

Senior congressional staffers and one eyewitness told Fox News the incident began with a car chase, which came to a stop near the Capitol building. Sources said several police cars were in pursuit. When they boxed in the other vehicle, the driver got out and five or six shots were fired, sources said.

Witnesses saw a baby being taken from the car.

Police have locked House members in the chamber. The developments come as lawmakers were debating a series of small spending bills, amid the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The lockdown follows the mass shooting last month at the Washington Navy Yard.

One woman in a black car with her child backs into a police car near the white house, police car gives chase toward the capital, shots were fired without knowledge of a child involved in the black car.

Woman injured taken to hospital along with policeman airlifted out.

I bet the have the hydraulic ram powered barriers.They sit at ground level but a button gets pressed and it flys upwards it can lift tractor trailers even hell they are designed to stop one going 70 MPH cold fully raised or while deploying.

In Germany a guard at the gate tripped the rapid deploy button by accident a German cab driver had the bad luck that his car was passing over top the barrier well it flipped the car and the guy was hurt badly.Bet that guy got a nice settlement from the US government now he owns the cab company I bet.Wonder what German expletive he used while in flight.....
