Chrysler recalls 469,000 SUVs worldwide over gearshift issue

Luckily I do not own a Chrysler.

Quote:
(Reuters) - Chrysler Group LLC is recalling about 469,000 SUVs worldwide to update software after some vehicles' circuit boards were found to be transmitting signals that trigger inadvertent gearshifts to neutral, the No. 3 U.S. automaker said Saturday.

One of those things that happen from time to time to every major car maker.

Why the recall for just a software update. I can update my TV firmware with USB flash drive, why not my car?

I guess the problem is a bit more technically focused to just do a software update.

And that is why I do not like the fact that cars turn more and more into computers who take over control...

It is occasional software glitches or smelly inefficient engines which break down all the time.
Looking back at average cars of 70s or 80s there is nothing much we are missing here.

Sounds like Chrysler is doing what needs to be done.
