Generally, you have to get close enough, like 7000 yds or so, before you can ID the group and send a contact report. Could be pretty exciting if you're spotted, or they pick up your radio signal. Which is most important - report or attack? Unknown at the time, the Japanese had VERY good optics.

Depends on the mods you use. Usually, to report groups your crew has to get a visual on a ship in the group not an escort, can be difficult to do with TF or well escorted convoys.

Armistead ... if you take out a carrier or any ship of a TF in port or simply coming out of it on their way do you know if it will completely eliminate them from the battle or will they simply re-spawn at a given time to be at the battle in accordance to history?
