Yes, I think this is true.

When I first saw the U-505 (as a kid), it seemed enormous to me, and to most people, I think. Later, seeing it again, much smaller. Here, it is beached and the whole boat is sticking up, and appears very tall. At sea, if you saw it next to a larger ship, it would probably seem small.
