I firmly believe that every Harpoon bug could be fixed within 6 weeks, if there was the will to do so.

Until that happens, this albatross will continue to hang around their neck.

You would think that if they have a military contract for their "MilSim" that they would be more vigilant in squashing those bugs.
You would think that their military customers would be stomping on them.

I know that I, as a consumer, am not going to blow my cash on their product until I see the massive level of bugs gone.
Maybe we can hope that some team of crackers reverse engineers the code and goes in, fixes the bugs themselves, and presents the fixed version to AGSI. This is probably a pretty doable venture with some smart people. There are hobbyist crackers who do this kind of thing as a hobby. I used to know someone who, whenever he would find bugs in a game he liked, he would "reverse engineer" the code, fix it, and then re-compile the thing. And he did it for fun.
Wishful thinking that someone would do that in this day and age.

I really hope Command follows through on being the next Harpoon.

HCE is a bit better, but they have also pretty much given up fixing bugs and just sit around complaining why no one wants to help them. The overall level of function is probably higher in HCE than in ANW/HUE.

I wish some other company would take over Harpoon development who will actually do it justice. "Command" looks like it's going to be a shoe-in for the next Harpoon if everything works right. It already is surpassing what "Harpoon 4" was supposed to have been before AGSI canceled development on it. It might be nice if AGSI devoted some development time to creating a new engine that uses the latest Harpoon rules set that isn't so full of bugs.
Who knows what that game will be like. They make a lot of claims, but there's no way to know since it isn't publicly available. At least Harpoon is out there for anyone to check, bugs and all.

That's just another excuse. If you don't have the resources to do it properly, better to not do anything at all. They took the money and now won't deliver a functional product. This is the same thing that has happened with NWAC. That game is half-assed, too.

I doubt that their military customers have much use for them. However, if all they want is a program to track a few units moving around a map, then the game is fine for that purpose. If they actually want an intelligent AI, then they are probably looking elsewhere.

A (crazy) idea :

We should gather and organize a fundraising in order to buy the license and fix those endless bugs.

I heard that someone tried to do just that, a long time ago. The number was supposedly in the 'high six figures'. Only someone truly delusional would place such a value on Harpoon (and much less on the current state of the game.)

Is there any alternative to Harpoon that even comes close to what Harpoon does out there?

Kickstarter for a Harpoon Alternative anyone?

I think that there are a lot of additional parts to the puzzle that need to be assembled before anyone's ready to make any KickStarter announcements.

I honestly think this is a matter of just repackaging old games for resale. There is likely no ongoing effort to support this very old product.

I had the original PC version back in '90 and visually it hasn't changed. They simply made the same game run in windows.

Isn't that the Matrix Mantra?

Yes, we know this is 20 years old game but unfortunately there is no viable alternative so far. Any replies to my questions instead of infinite Harpoon's bugfest mantra?

I don't think you are alone in your opinion:

If you have the previous versions of both games do not buy. There is nothing new. do not waste your money like I did. This is the last time I buy a repackaged game (old) from matrix

What a mess! Constant twaddle about Harpoon bugs instead of helping other players...
