Default [REL] SH-5 Water for SH-3 Ultimate V84

Description:
This environment mod is the third version in an evolution of three. In this version everything has been done to make it as perfect as possible.

Sharp edges have been removed and everything that was already good in the previous version has been polished again.

Basis of this mod is a carefully created model that calculates colors etc to recreate the natural mechanic of light, reflection, ambient light etc. This model gives better results then modding each parameter by hand. Also new versions can be created much quicker (one mouse click). Still a lot of work has to be done as it needs testing and tuning of images etc.

Features and improvements

As far as I can remember...
  • General
  • More and better use of reflection
  • Water in windspeed=0 is now still moving as the 'mirror water' is a bit ugly
  • Focus on playability and moderation
  • Testing and tuning for the all scenes, sun altitudes and intra-scenes
  • Clear sky (scene 0) and cloudy scene (scene 1)
  • Optimized underwater colors consistent with the colors above the sea surface
  • Attempt to create the illusion of transparancy of the water surface
  • More contrast in objects. Shadows a bit darker, sun lit side of objects lighter
  • Midday scene fully redone, a lot of tuning there.
  • Afternoon scene less yellow. But enough to keep it realistic. An optional mod has been added for those sensitive eyes who still cannot stand it. I actually think there is no need for this one as in the standard mod the start of the 'yellow phasse' has been shifted a bit later.
  • Moderated the sunset scenes. Transition from afternoon to sunset optimized as much as possible though slightly hampered by a bug in stock exe.
  • Evening scene slightly adapted, especially fog re-colored. The fog in the evening scene should fit both the sunset side of the sky as well as the darker side. But now it is better compromised than before
  • Overcast and rain sky (scene 2)
  • Most difficult scene especially the evening.
  • Overcast sceneries are now based on grey and green. Colors are more subtile. Unfortunetaly the game injects red automatically into the evening scene. Second issue is that grey and blue become purple when it gets darker. These issues spoils the perfect night scene. By now the evening scenes are the best achievable and certainly not bad.
  • Cloud texture replaced by a more realistic and smoother one.
  • Night sky made a bit lighter for playability
  • Fog (scene 2)
  • Optional 'Heavy Fog'-mod added. So at least you have an additional situation there. Remember the H.Sie fog fix will not warn you for this fog and I'm unaware if the game implemented the sensor part for the fog.
Installation
Unzip the archive and place the contents in you JGSME "MOD" folder and enable it.

The mod contain three components:

1. SH-5 Water for SH-3 16/20 Km V84
Standard Mod

2. SH-5 Water for SH-3 16/20 Km V84 Less yellow afternoon
The same mod but with a milder yellow color for the afternoon scene. I actually think there is no need for this one but you may prefer it.

Optional mod:

3. SH-5 Water for SH-3 16/20 Km V84 Optional Fog take
Redone of the 'heavy fog'. This mod you have to install after one of the
above has been installed

Testing
This mod has been tested using the GWX supermod. Previous version has shortly been tested with Living Silent Hunter. It will be a great help if you will test this mod with LSH, NYGM etc and report back to me!

20 Km/16 Km
Mod is available in both 20 Km as well as 16 Km version

Thanks
  • Neal Stevens for founding of www.subsim.com
  • The GWX team for thier excellent mod
  • Johann Sebastion Bach (1685-1750) for his magnificant cantates so much appreciated during the many hours of modding
Distribution
No commercial use or purposes. Re-use in other mods after my permission.

Can you do a 16KM version?

I get a corrupt Sky when I use the 20Km.Black with a fuzzy circle surround.
I have no problem with your SH-5 Water for SH-3 ULTIMATE V10 16KM

One of the best mods IMO.

Thanks. I can. But the problem you describe sounds like a wrong install. Once you mix up the scene.dat with an other version (16 Km/20 Km) of the EnvColor_Atl.dat etc files you get that black circle.

Working fine!

For my personal taste, I like a more reddish dawn/dusk, but the wave dynamics, the sea colours and all the stuff is very nice!

Merry Christmas!

Yes it's not surprising I have a lot of mods installed.A while back I did something unintentional to the GME and lost the list of installed mods.SH-5 Water for SH-3 ULTIMATE V10 16KM works fine.Perhaps a 16 Km of this will too.
Once again fantastic work and thanks for deciding to make a 16 Km version.
