Are there any mods for ships and such I should check out? Any thing that will add to the game play and eye candy? I figure I should learn it from the beginning then add it later on.

Yeah, I refer people to it so much that I got tired of looking it up again and bookmarked it right below my regular Subsim bookmark.

if you want to get by all the trainings complete navigation then exit out of came and edit the following file (it will be to the save location which should be documents) SH3 folder>data>cfg double click naval academy file. you should see Exam0=true which means you passed and under that with Result0=700.000000
to make the game think you passed everything just edit the lines underneath the result0 line to
Result1=700.000000
Exam2=true
Result2=700.000000
Exam3=true
Result3=700.000000
Exam4=true
Result4=700.000000

If you're going to go that far, why not just edit your Delta Renown to be 50,000, or 100,000?

i never need that much i get my start sub (use SH3 commander) and don't buy another one (not all kaluens where able to "get" a new sub after all) they may have transferred by orders of BdU. besides i am in 1941 in a type 9b right now on my current campaign and am facing a major surplus of renown.
besides editing that renown takes all the fun out of the game

I see no need to edit the Academy or the renown. I just play the Navigation course, get my 1500 and call it good. I very rarely 'buy' anything at all, including equipment or crew. My point was simply that if you're going to go in and change it for free, why stop there?

no reason not to stop but it is always an option to edit the files in your favor. i just know that it takes the funn out of it.. the flak trainning has probably cost me 5 training Uboats and countless numbers of crew

Also are there any player made Tutorials for land lubbers like me? I have watched a few things on youtube. Some seem better then others, but I need some thing that will run me through the basics some more.
Watch Frontier359's SH3 playthrough on YouTube.

It's very detailed and equally long at 5hrs 18min but the best introduction to a game's operation and concepts I've probably ever seen. He used GWX as well.

It's so detailed you can use it as a stock SH3 trainer also.

It seems like he can walk in the sub SH5-style, he has new cameras, new interiors and new models for the crew, which mod is that? Apart from the UI which I don't like (I'm used to the stock/GWX one) it's not only GWX, I'm curious

Somebody asked that in the thread below his intro, and he answered: FM NewInteriors.
