The AI doesn't do much in terms of chosing sonobuoys, as Molon said I think they only drop difars.
When we were making the first version with the new buoy depths, I looked closely at AI sonobuoy dropping and decided that I didn't see anything that would give me concern, and also noted that the AI is pretty bad about dropping buoys in the first place. I think SCS may have tightened up the AI code for aircraft sonobuoys and a few other things because I have found that contrary to what I thought, some AI behavior is not controlled by doctrines but rather at the level of the game engine itself.
