I do it, but only when the resupply vessel is over that way.

Is it feasible to mimic those historical patrols where they didn't stop off at a resupply ship, though? I know that there's a discrepancy with the in-game distances being rendered on a flat, Mercator-style map as opposed to real life, thus extending the distances in-game, but I thought that WB's fuel efficiency mod compensated for this.

I'd try myself, but playing DID-style, I don't want to push my luck too much trying to do something that can't be managed.

I mostly use IX series, and then I have more stamina and range with that boat.

Yeah I use a IXB aswell and now I'm wondering if I could straight shot it across the atlantic to the carribean and get back to Spain with a safe amount of fuel. Can easily hit Canada/New England area with the Belchen on return.

It's Jan. 1941 for me and there is the Vigo port in Spain that has the creepy resupply ship from Das Boot. Then the supply ship South of that, West off the coast of Africa. Those could be good options for a VIIC. Stock up on supplies at Vigo or near the islands off Africa then use your batteries as much as possible.

Could work

As far as I can tell, you should be able to do this (realistically) with a VIIC and VIIB, so you should be totally fine in a Type IX. Type VII boats operated in the Caribbean, and at least one VIIB I know of (U-84) was in the Gulf of Mexico before being sunk off the Eastern seaboard of the US on a subsequent patrol.

So far, 1939 and early 1940, while taking a IXB to Canadian and Eastern US waters, I have not needed to stop for fuel even once before making it back to my home port (Wilhelmshaven).

because the earth is spherical in reality and the SHIII map is flat in the game the distances involved are all screwed up so without modification the historical recreation of the trip is not possible.

I believe the GWX mod "fixed" this by dramatically increasing the range of some of those u-boats in the game. so they would have range enough to make the trip non stop

but its been a long time since i've had the old girl off the shelf.

in stock... you'd run out of diesel - if i remember correctly the range on the u-boats was programmed to be historically accurate, but because of the flat earth, the north atlantic is substantially larger in SHIII than in real life as the distances are stretched a bit particularly in the northern most areas where we would spend a great deal of our patrol time.

The next subsim to roll out HAS to have a spherical map like the flight simulator seris - some way - some how.

In GWX 3.0 U-461 shows up in CC61 in April 1942.
