For some reason, my first associations with it are faces of saints in Orthodox icons, or portraits of Buddha. Same sort of modest calmness to it

Yes, I thought the same, orthodox icons. My first thought was: an enlighted Jesus! And that I do not mean as a cheap shot. It really was my first thought.

I saw the same facial and eye expression at times in portraits of gorillas.
