There is some information floating around here regarding NVidia drivers, but I can't find them at the moment (quick search only).
Also, the 1440x900 is a good resolution, and there is a mod to be able to use this. Again, I can't seem to find anything today but I'm on holiday .
Anyway, find the mod(s) for Hi Resolution and the mod(s) for getting the correct look for guages, instruments, etc. and you should be just fine.

[edit] by the way, I'm also running SHIII GWX 3.0 Gold on a laptop, very similar specs. The only mod I can't load is the large ship addition mod (I can't remember the name of it, ... but I'm on holiday ).
