happy fathers day!!!

As it turns out neither of my daughters contacted me at all.

I had a good conversation with my stepmother, however. She and I hated each other back when they were first married, but then I was a kid with problems anyway, so as I've gotten older I've come to blame myself more than her. She and my dad have been married 51 years, so that's an accomplishment and I told her so when I visited in December.

My dad is getting worse and can't even talk to people anymore. She held the phone to his ear while I talked to him for a minute. She said there was no real response and she wasn't going to lie about it. I feel sorry for her at this stage. He needs constant care and she and my sister are running themselves ragged trying to keep up. I offered to come back down and help but they both said don't bother, they have hired someone to help ease the load. I feel sorry for them both. My stepmom also said there won't be a funeral service because he's not a believer and hated going to funerals himself, and to have one for him would be somewhat hypocritical.

I know it's not appropriate but at this stage we're all kind of wishing he would just die so they can get on with their lives. Rude, maybe, but true.

So it wasn't exactly a happy Father's day for me from either side, but I survived it. Played a little SH3 and a little Aces Of The Deep last night.
