I've seen this one too. And even better, after attacking it, *another one* actually followed right behind it. If I had radar, I'd be looking at nearly a hundred contacts on the scope at once. It's actually fairly easy to attack these though. Once you get inside, the escort AI isn't good enough to actually do anything about you and you can just submerge and drive across the columns to get away...

The Java invasion fleet is larger for sure, probably largest in game. They're about 3 invasion fleets that sail into Lingayen at the wars beginning, all fairly large, 20-30 merchants. They're several other large invasion fleets that hit Borneo, Java, Christmas Island, Lae, Port Moresby, etc...20-40 ships.
Late war, well 44 and 45 you'll find many large convoys using the Singy/Borneo/Palawan shipping lane, Formosa is just as good, many 20 plus ships with lots of mean escorts, moreso in Formosa. Also many large TF 30-50 ships... Sit outside Brunei Bay in the deeper water early Oct 44 to late Nov, you'll wish you had 100 torpedoes, sometimes you have to decide which convoy or TF to attack, you can often have several on your screen at once.
