I just read this thread. There is only one solution. Ducimus, you are fired. I mean demoted. New Title/Rank: Secretary of the Navy.

Note: Secretary of the Navy was James Forestall's position during WW2, as that was his title when he signed an order awarding my father a medal for combat on Saipan.

I think Sailor Steve is the boss in the Mods, but I'm pretty sure you can upload one to the Subsim mods and link to it from a post.

One thing is 1st get the number of bytes in size so the program can list it in KB or MB etc. (it does the math)

Unless someone does something really dumb it is kind of hard to get in trouble here. Usually people are very nice and also thankful you contributed.

Happy Hunting!

OK, this is weird...

Never mind about my patch idea. I found something weird that seems to point to Ducimus' idea about how the game chooses upgrades.

I started with a Gato in March 42, playing on my mod (which only has to do with weapons) over TMO 2.5, and after 5 highly successful patrols, I was offered a new boat. I was given a Balao in September 42, based at Midway.

The Balao cfg says it doesn't exist until 1/1/43, and Pearl Harbor and Midway get in 3/1/43 and 3/20/43, respectively. I think Ducimus may be on to something with the game only seeing that there are missions available at that flotilla for every class of boat, and doesn't check boat availability dates at that time. Kind of a head-scratcher, huh?

I think I'll try editing the flotillas.cfg and removing the missions from boats until their availability dates, and see what happens then. Could be key to the whole Tambor thing.

I was driving a Gar from start of War, and i got a Tambor after 2 exceptional patrols with 75/85k tonnage each...well they are basically the same but numerically its a downgrade?

Dunno if this has anything to do with this issue, just to let you guys know

There's your problem, next time try sailing instead of driving. :)

Yes, moving into a TAMBOR from a GAR is a slight downgrade in boat classes but not much.

On a serious note, (this IS April 1st) are you using TMO 2.5? If you are, download the patch
"1_TMO_25_small_patch.rar" (25.9 KB) from:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...=3506&act=down

Enable that patch with the JSGME - on top of - TMO 2.5 unless there has been a more recent fix. I'd suggest just starting a new career with the patch in case there are hold out files with the wrong information in your Saved Games from before the patch.

Happy Hunting!

I did try what I posted here, and it doesn't work. My conclusion is the Terrible T is probably not possible unless all files for all other classes of subs were completely removed from the game. My reason for this thinking is due to my attempts to rewrite the flotillas.cfg file and eliminate the availability of certain subs.

Same results as before, I get upgraded from Gato to Balao 6 months before the sub exists in its own cfg file, and no missions exist in any flotilla for that sub class. I deleted all entries from the flotillas.cfg file from the time periods outside of when the subs should be available in that flotilla, and it still didn't work. I think there's some kind of hard-coded error in the upgrade system.
