Epic thread. As I finished the first facepalm, the next one just followed...

I dont know where to start... I am just sorry that some people even think about attacking a ship, killing hundreds of sailors after being ordered to surrender. For...for what!? Surrender = war is over!

And the "no surrender" crap... sorry but wtf!? Extreme and mindless thinking like this caused a lot of trouble in history! And especially in my country back in the day it has been people with such a mindset, marching the streets with torches in their hands and fire in their eyes.

What you are talking about is no friggin game like SH3 but reality!
Real conflict, real ships, real dead people - millions of them!
In my opinion, this thread is disrespectful and a prove that some people

a) have learned nothing or
b) just dont think for more than 2 meters... (german saying...)

But maybe im just overreacting...

That's exactly the reply I was typing out when I saw your post. Why condemn fellow sailors to death for no reason at all? Hadn't there been enough killing and death and destruction by this point in the war? Why contribute more in a completely meaningless and callous act?

Agreed. I think the reality of war and the futility of everything had set in for the commander and crew of U-2511 by this point. Fanatics would have had no place on my boat in this situation.

I don't think you're overreacting, but just realize it's easy for armchair captains to talk big and tough, but I'm sure that if they were placed in the situation, all that talk would be shown to be what it is - a bunch of hot air.

From the American perspective we did lose a heavy cruiser to a submarine torpedo in the dying days of the war--the Indianapolis. Other than the incident providing a bit of interesting back story to the movie Jaws I can't think of how that futile gesture from a "no surrender culture" improved things. Japan still lost and lost big.

Perfectly acceptable. Happens to everyone earlier or later...

Now, have fun sinking virtual ships, like we all do
