At flank speed, I think my deaf grandmother in Omaha heard you. *Might as well have asked the cook to bang on some pots. *Or had Bernard practice his non silent Italian singing in Japanese. *Better yet, do an emergency blow and paint "here I am!!!" on the conning tower. *
The saying is run silent, run deep, not run deep, run like a 4 year old on meth. |

Go into the control room and look at the engine rpm meter. If it's above 100, you're probably doing something wrong. Where is my trombone?

i understand that and was at silent with my stealth meter green all the way.
i reloaded an earlier save and did the exact same thing without the flank speed run and they where still all over me in minutes. am i missing the point about the stealth meter, does green not mean you are undetected and therefore they would have no idea where you are,or am i reading too much into this? |

IIRC (I don't use it anymore) it shows your potential for detection, not whether you have been detected or not. *All it takes is it to go red for a fraction of a second and they might hear *you. *You may not have even seen it flip. *They might have immediately lost you, but they now know your general direction and will respond accordingly.
Your best bet is to practice good discipline and not rely on a meter. *Always assume they can detect you. Approach and withdraw as quietly as possible. *If your at range,k then you may get away with 1/3 speed or so, but if they're going to be jumping you, then manually clicking the speedo till you get below 100rpm (about 1 knot) is better than going just silent running, but you still need to do that. I only use flank when they can't heear me (no ASW assets around), or if they know where I am and I have to manuever to go deep or avoid DC's. * |

Also if you use electric torps you'll be a little harder to track

Also, my understanding is that the game doesn't remember you're in silent mode when it loads your save. I know when I load a save I can issue the command even though the icons show I'm already running silent. I try to avoid saving submerged at all, but when I can't avoid it I always stop the engines first.
